One of the most popular screen westerns ever made, this Academy Award winning classic blends adventure, romance and comedy to tell the true story of the West's most likeable outlaws. No one is quicker than Butch Cassidy (Paul Newman) when it comes to get rich quick schemes, and his sidekick Sundance (Robert Redford) is a wizard with a gun. When these two bungling bank and train robbers tire of running from the law, they set out for Bolivia with Sundance's girlfriend (Katharine Ross). Though they can barely speak enough Spanish to communicate 'This is a stick-up', that's only a minor detail to the two nicest "bad-guys" who ever rode the West.

Storyline: Butch and Sundance are the two leaders of the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang. Butch is all ideas, Sundance is all action and skill. The west is becoming civilized and when Butch and Sundance rob a train once too often, a special posse begins trailing them no matter where they run. Over rock, through towns, across rivers, the group is always just behind them. When they finally escape through sheer luck, Butch has another idea, "Let's go to Bolivia". Based on the exploits of the historical characters. Written by John Vogel

Cast Notes: Paul Newman (Butch Cassidy [Robert Leroy Parker]), Robert Redford (The Sundance Kid [Harry Longbaugh]), Katharine Ross (Etta Place), Strother Martin (Percy Garris), Henry Jones [I] (Bike Salesman), Jeff Corey (Sheriff Steve Bledsoe), George Furth (Woodcock), Cloris Leachman (Agnes), Ted Cassidy (Harvey Logan), Kenneth Mars (Marshal), Donnelly Rhodes (Macon), Jody Gilbert (Large Woman), Timothy Scott [I] (News Carver), Don Keefer (Fireman), Charles Dierkop (Flat Nose Curry).

User Comment: Primtime Langley • I recently wathched this movie for the third time and found it to be a better movie than the last time I saw it. This is unique because I usually am not able to sit through a movie I have already wathced. I believe that Redford and Newman each gave career performances which were infinitely helped by an excellent performance from Katherine Ross.

This movie does move at a slow pace at times, but has its fine points as well. The New York vignette has always been a movie magic piece in my mind and really helped to move the movie along from the overdone chase scene to the trip to Bolivia. The scene in which Butch confronts Logan for group leadership is also a personal favourite of mine. Perhaps the best part of the movie is the final shoot-out in which Butch and Sundance discuss ways to get away and what to do after even though they know they are going to go out in a blaze of glory.

This movie could almost be considered a comedy rather than a western because of its melodramatic script and the fact that the viewer never gets to meet "Those Guys". This one will always be on my top 10 list. 8/10 stars.
